Summary: When Mallorie Miles hires Detective Arthur Manse to find her would-be killer in 1920s New York, his life begins to spiral out of his control. With her death at hand, his mind gets lost among the different cases he's pursuing, involving a painting, a con, and a race to stop another bank from being robbed by the most notorious couple on the East Coast. He doesn't know if he can trust the grifter Eames, but Arthur will need his help to bring his life back on track.

Notes: I have to thank the super awesome beanarie, for being insightful, sharp-eyed, and being an all-around amazing beta, even when I bugged you last-minute a week before the deadline. You have been a tremendous help and an awesome person to talk to. <3 And Minsy too, for a readover. And heavenly_rain for the gorgeous artwork. <3

Finally got my email. Elmfloo56 in Hufflepuff.

Gorgeous graphics, especially the key room. That, and the new information (McGonagall, anyone?) are the best parts. Collecting stuff can only be so fun until the Where's Waldo frustration levels kick in.

Reminds me of Amy Winehouse's Fuck Me Pumps, though a little less humorous. I love Lily's bitingly happy songs, but this is nice too.
Match.com is the real solution!...........

I've been watching a lot of TCM lately too, or at least try go catch classics when they come on.
And lookie, it's Sunset Boulevard...Collapse )

I'd prefer something brighter then that baby blue, but I do love loud lapels.

Geometric shapes and bird print? Fun combo.

✄ I finally finished reading The Thin Man today! But I think I need to reread it knowing the whodunnit in the end. See if I can pick up all the hints, because I really was blindsided by the ending. I'm wondering if I should have put it together sooner, but then the detective did say he was annoyed he didn't think about that possibility sooner.

When I read novels from a good time past, I normally don't think too much about the obvious inequality in gender and underrepresentation of other races. Rich white couple and all, man doing most of the sleuthing and wife being interested and thinking about the case herself and not shying away from danger but nevertheless takes a backseat to the man. But as a mystery novel, it's pretty great with the twists and turns, suspense and oh snap! moments, and quirky characters. And having privileged citizens as the main characters adds a rare spice: sleuthing around with a swig of alcohol and witty barb at each turn. They are a fun couple all-in-all.

And now I can watch the films.

well hello asta

Don't they look witty and crime-solving-y?

cutest porn start ever

✄ I decided to use my wonderful penis notebook as my planner for school. (The brand is actually called noodoll but it's shorter to say penis, really). It's suppose to be more of a doodle book, but it has nice criss-cross lines, and maybe I'll remember all my little epiphanies instead of forgetting them for next day's lunch.

✄ Meh I'm halfway through my inception big bang and suddenly I want to rework the whole story. How does one characterize??

drinking wine looking mysterious
✄ Community, come to television faster please. I love the placement of hot guys in mysterious places.

Well I binged today. Well I fucking hate addiction.

I'm addicted to two things:

1. Food
2. Fantasies

I stumbled upon the bad habit of eating lots and lots of junk food. I just...I don't know. I've spent over a year complaining about it in my head. There's no point in continuing. I know I can maintain a healthy diet; I did it for 3 days a week ago. I just need a little more fortitude. (I don't find that an overstatement, because for me I have "food withdrawal"; my cravings become little howling dogs in my brain. It's annoying.)

As for my fantasies, well I think I create them because I want to have more emotional connections with people as I feel satisfied currently. I have wonderful friends, and my life isn't hard. Maybe I just don't feel right, not experiencing anything deeply emotional.

I've gone through pain before, however. I guess I forget that there's an endgame, not just a premature end.

Maybe this "food withdrawal" would provide the emotional bombs I need. Actually those are two different things. Well, let's see how this goes.

I need to yell.

---

I'm close to finishing The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett, and I still deeply, deeply abhor Mimi. I hope she's just a caricature; I hope there aren't people like her in the world. Sleazy sleazeball of a daughter-beater. Actually the whole family's crazy, Nick wasn't lying.

I have really bad spoiler luck; I shouldn't have gone on the DW BBC website and looked through the character profiles before watching Let's Kill Hitler. >> Oh well, it was still a fun ride all around. Though I was expecting more stuff to be done with the Nazis besides a couple good cracks by Rory.

I also just signed up for the Inception Big Bang as an artist and author. (All Dashiell Hammett's fault.) I can feel myself dying already aha. College apps can wait, I mean--
